El buceo es una actividad muy segura y el contar con una buena infraestructura médica es una garantía más para practicarla con total tranquilidad.
Sabemos que al bucear con equipo autónomo y respirar gases a presión, se acumula nitrógeno en nuestros tejidos corporales, y que al ascender y reducirse la presión, por lo tanto éste comienza a abandonar el organismo a través de la respiración. Si por cualquier motivo se produjera una reducción brusca de la presión (por ejemplo, al ascender de golpe) o se omitiera una parada de descompresión, las microburbujas de nitrógeno se harían más grandes, por lo tanto se convertirían en macroburbujas y podrían obstaculizar el riego sanguíneo a nivel de ciertas partes del cuerpo, generalmente las extremidades, brazos y piernas en las que podríamos notar hormigueo, como si estuvieran dormidas, y otros síntomas de la enfermedad descompresiva.
Ciertamente el tratamiento entonces es la urgente recompresión en una cámara hiperbárica, que consiste en un compartimiento cilíndrico como un pequeño vagón, en el cual el buceador se introduce y permanece durante cierto tiempo mientras el personal sanitario aumenta la presión interior para reproducir las condiciones de la inmersión efectuada y conseguir la reducción del tamaño de las nocivas macroburbujas para convertirlas en microburbujas y luego, ir reduciendo poco a poco la presión, muy progresivamente y permitir así la libre circulación de la sangre por todo el sistema vascular.
Simultáneamente al paciente se le administra oxígeno para hiperoxigenar los tejidos y facilitar la eliminación del nitrógeno.

Los tratamientos hiperbáricos realizados a tiempo suelen ser muy efectivos y permiten rápidas y completas recuperaciones. De todos modos nunca debemos dar ocasión a necesitar de su uso por lo que tenemos que ser estrictos y rigurosos en los procedimientos de eliminación de nitrógeno mediante el ascenso controlado y la realización de las paradas de descompresión necesarias, aunque en cualquier inmersión se recomienda una parada de 3 minutos de duración a -5mts y siempre, el ascenso desde el fondo a superficie a una velocidad de 18 metros por minuto.

Diving is a very safe activity and having a good medical infrastructure is another guarantee to practice it with total peace of mind.
We know that when diving with autonomous equipment and breathing gases under pressure, nitrogen accumulates in our body tissues, and that as the pressure rises and falls, it begins to leave the body through breathing. If for any reason there was a sharp reduction in pressure (for example, when ascending suddenly) or a decompression stop was omitted, the nitrogen microbubbles would become larger, become macrobubbles and could impede blood flow at the level of certain parts of the body, usually the limbs, arms and legs in which we might notice tingling, as if they were asleep, and other symptoms of decompressive disease.
The treatment is then the urgent recompression in a hyperbaric chamber, which consists of a cylindrical compartment like a small wagon, in which the diver enters and stays for a while while the healthcare staff increases the internal pressure to reproduce the immersion conditions effected and achieve the reduction of the size of the harmful macrobubbles to turn them into microbubbles and then, gradually reduce the pressure, very progressively and thus allow the free circulation of blood throughout the vascular system.
Simultaneously, the patient is given oxygen to hyperoxygenate the tissues and facilitate the removal of nitrogen.
